Centrum Care Homes Completes Full Digital Transformation Across South West Services

Centrum Care Homes has proudly completed a full-scale digital transformation across its five care homes in the South West, marking a significant milestone in its journey to deliver safer, smarter and more personalised care.

Since taking on the role of Project and Systems Coordinator in March 2024, Karen Hill has led the charge in transitioning the homes from paper-based documentation to a fully systemised, digital care model. As of February 2025, all five services are now operating using an advanced suite of digital platforms – including Person Centred Software (PCS) for care planning and Camascope for electronic medication management (eMAR).

Karen explained:

“This transformation has been about far more than introducing new systems – it’s about empowering our teams, improving communication, and enhancing the lives of the people we care for. Digital innovation is helping us future-proof our homes, while delivering real, everyday benefits for our team members and residents.”

The newly embedded digital infrastructure also includes e-Learning, rota and team management platforms, a dedicated HR system, and an upgraded telephony network – creating an integrated digital backbone that supports efficiency, oversight, and high-quality care delivery.

Feedback from across the services has been overwhelmingly positive. James Lambert, who was supporting Beacon House at the time of the PCS rollout and is now working at Croft Lodge as Deputy Manager, has shared his knowledge with the team at Croft Lodge, helping to embed the system there and ensure the team remains confident and up to date.

“I had the pleasure of working alongside Karen during the implementation of Person Centred Software (PCS) in one of our homes. Throughout the process, Karen provided invaluable support to both the staff and management team, ensuring a smooth and effective transition to the new system.

“PCS has significantly enhanced my role as Deputy Manager, giving me greater visibility into the care being delivered in real time. It has also enabled the creation of more comprehensive and personalised care plans for the residents in our care."

Sarah Tremlett, Registered Manager at Beacon House, also shared the difference PCS has made:

“At Beacon House, we are proud to utilise PCS – a powerful system that supports real-time inputting of care notes and care planning. Our team can promptly access and update care plans, involve residents directly in the process, and retrieve important health information quickly. This promotes transparency, collaboration, and high-quality person-centred care.”

At The White House, the introduction of Camascope in October 2024 has brought dramatic improvements to medication safety and team member wellbeing. Tracie Bowen, Registered Manager, said:

“Camascope has been a game-changer for our team – it’s not only made medication rounds quicker and safer, but it’s also given our team the confidence and support they need to carry out their roles with ease and accuracy.

“With the fantastic guidance from Karen during the rollout and her continued support, even team members who were less tech-minded and had no prior training are now eager to learn and feel confident in training to administer medications.”

Feedback from care team members has echoed these sentiments. One carer shared:

“Bringing PCs into the home has made a big difference. We can now quickly access all care plans whenever we need them. The profile pictures help us identify residents, and we can easily update handover notes in real time, which ensures the next shift is always up to date. Being able to record things as we go means we don’t forget anything, and overall, it’s made our work much easier and more efficient.”

This digital transformation reflects Centrum Care Homes’ long-standing commitment to innovation and continuous improvement – creating safer environments, supporting professional development, and ultimately enriching the lives of those in its care.
